Fethiye - Turkey

Hi, I've just joined the forum.

If anyone needs advise or help in the Fethiye area with planning routes, accommodation, spares and repairs etc I'll try to help.

I've lived here for 5 years so I've got a pretty good knowledge of the resorts in the area, including Ovacik, Hisaronu, Oludeniz, Calis, Gocek etc I can also offer advise about the routes down the coast to Patara, Kalkan, Kas and on to Antalya.

We own land in the Kaya Valley which is always available for "wild" campers to use.

Hi
you are a lucky man indeed :thumbup1: That area of Turkey is stunning especially the view from the harbour . Have nearly convinced the missus we should buy a small flat there so we can use it when i retire - in fact we are over there in Sept for a week ( Ovacik ) .
Would love to do Anatayla on the bike one year

That's an awesome area. I loved riding through the area south of Fethiye, the part between the D400 and the coast. It felt really remote, and we got our first view of the ocean since Vladivostok 4 months earlier.

advise on bike rentals in Turkey?

Hello there, also new to the forum and just reading your post. We are traveling to Turkey in the next few weeks from Vancouver, Canada.

We were hoping to take our KLR650 (2000) but the arrangements fell through. So thinking it might be possible to rent a bike in Turkey. Most of the places we found on the web seem to be quite expensive with fancier bikes then we're looking for. We're hoping to rent something similar to a KLR,
or even something more basic but that can take us off the beaten path. No need for automatic windshields etc. - would prefer something more prosaic.

Would you happen to know of any places that you can recommend? Would appreciate any thoughts or advise. Thanks very much!

rental bike

Hi fastback,

you might want to check those guys, page is also in english:
Taurus Motorrad
- they are renting yamaha XTs, 600 and 250. No idea how good, but worth a try. They also supply Continental TKC 80 in Turkey. Located right next to Antalya
Have fun riding this beautyful country

Hi Fastback,

Most of the bikes that I've seen Taurus Motorad customers ride around on seem to be long in the tooth with quite a bit of "battle damage". (Their tours regularly come through Kas).

There is a decent place in Fethiye near the harbour that hires out decent looking XT600's for about 70 Euros a day. Where are you basing yourself during your time in Turkey? I'm on the med coast if you are passing by

Gert,,

I can't reply to your PM as I haven't yet made enough posts on the forum.

You'll have no trouble getting oil for the bike as most garages stock it and there are 20+ sales agents and repairers spread around the Fethiye area.

Most of the main roads are fine for 2 wheels but there's a big problem with pot-holes and loose gravel on many of the village and mountain roads.

There are plenty of places around the area for wild or organised-camping.

On the D400 approaching Fethiye from Gocek is a place called Gunluklu where, for a small fee you can camp on the beach. There are also toilet and washing facilities there.

A few kilometres further on is Katranci which has the same facilities.

Most of the beaches in the area are becoming quieter now that the season is coming to an end and you'll easily find somewhere suitable for wild-camping. Several restaurants and petrol stations will allow you to camp if you spend a little money with them.

There's a company in Oludeniz, near Fethiye called Route 69 that specialises in tours for bikers. You'll be able to pick-up some information from their website at Home*-*Route 69, Motor tours in Turkey

Fethiye

Whats the weather like in that part of the world in late October?

KayaKoyuOldBoy 17 Sep 2009 12:41

Still fairly warm but there's a good chance of heavy rain.

damn!

Have a look at this link

History : Weather Underground

Which is historical for the Antalya area for October 2008. If you play about with your inputs you should get a historical view of where you wish to go.

Cheers,

Dickyb
