Europe to UK, cheapest option?
We will be returning to the UK via Holland and therefore are looking to find out which is the cheapest option. Ferry from Hook of Holland? From Calais? Euro-tunnel?

eurotunnel last week when I just turned up was £58 or something.

ferry from Holland is more. ferry from Calais should be less, especially this time of year.

try the eurotunnel website for deals, but you're not likely to find much. Ferry companies may do deals (online) but it's probably too short notice to get something really cheap.

In the past I've always found pre-booking the Dover to Calais ferry to be the cheapest option (that I could find, anyway!). To give you some idea I've booked a return trip for me and my bike in APril for £45 which is 59.75 Euros, apparently.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. Won't be until June / July, we're only in Ecuador for now, still have to make it to the States first before flying to Amsterdam.

Matt - home for me is Scotland, maybe catch up for a pint of 80/- later on in the year?

then the Amsterdam (Ijmuiden?) - Newcastle ferry is good (cheaper than the Rosyth). while a bit more expensive, saves the hassle and cost of having to ride in England, so probably works out similar.

Just a nice blast up the A68 or A1.

Cheapest oneway with a bike is Boulogne Dover Speed Ferries, book on the internet a few days before you need it.

You don't say how you are traveling, if you don't have a vehicle check out the cheap flights

for us that live up the road though, it's 800 kms (the cheapest/shortest way by motorway) to edinburgh from dover. at approx 20 kms/lt that's 40 litres, and at £1.06/lt that's £64. Add in something to eat and a couple of coffees, and you have maybe £80. Plus 8 hours non-stop. So, including the (cheapest) ferry about £100.

Our return fares from Ijmuden/Newcastle I'm sure were around £80, so a single should be a little cheaper.

Could be. There was some chat last year about having an HU weekend in Scotland but it petered out to nothing.

I personally thought that you could have a cracker of a weekend, meet somewhere in the South (ish) on the Friday (so our English buddies could join us ) ride up to somewhere North of Fort Bill for Friday night, picking up Scottish riders on the way. Night two on the hebrides somewhere, then back across to the North West coast and back down the scenic A9 to Inverness, spending night three somewhere near Perth or something. Ah, what dreams turn to dust...

Well, not that I've given it much thought yet, but, Moffat to Plockton on day 1 (240 miles). Plockton up over the top and down to Wick day 2 (254 miles). Then Wick down to Perth or further on day 3. (187 miles) . Hebrides might be a "ferry too far" for people coming from dann saff in a 3 day trip.
I suppose to keep this thread on topic, we'd best wait until Hame gets 'hame' as it were. Which may just take us into midgie season. That may be quite an experience for our Friends from afar who have not yet experienced such delights. Just remember your Avon skin so soft and Tea tree oil and you'll be fine

Thanks for the info, Boulogne - Dover looks favourite. As we hope to attend the Ripley HU meet, Newcastle or Rosyth is out. And quite frankly, after riding home from Malaysia, around Australia and through the Americas, what's a few hundred miles more?!

A Scotland HU meet sounds like a plan, as long as it's after the Ripley HU meet, we should be able to make it.

And Steve, "You don't say how you are traveling" - I thought this was a motorcycle site!!!
