Europe North to South on a Ural....

Still settling back in after a 15000km trip across 21 countries to film a documentary about 'Happiness'. The doc is currently being produced in Birmingham but I blogged the trip, so if your really bored at work....

3 Wheels North

All of the blogs were produced while on the road running my lappy of the generator and editing in the tent. I would love to know what you think.....

what video editing software did you use? I like the photo storyboard effect it does.

I took my Macbook with me and used standard i-Movie. I thought about using higher spec software but its too time consuming. With i-movie I could create a template at home and then use it to speed things up on the road. Drying your clothes, cooking dinner and badly servicing the bike take up enough time in the evening before your start messing around with the footage....

I found that if we were alive and more than 100k in the right direction, then the day was a success and should be celebrated with a beer bier

thought it might of been something for the mac :S

Nice trip report by the way, its nice to have a video blog to go with the writing

How did you find the ural as a bike for long distance travelling?

We had a lot of filming equipment so didn't have the privilege of travelling light, being Russian it handled the load pretty well. Nice 750 twin so it would pull happily fully loaded with both of us in. The general weight of the bike can be handful to get used to but once you learn to ride differently (steering with the throttle etc) sidecars are alot of fun! After a day of mountain roads and rough terrain you would be pretty worn out but after about 4 weeks I got used to it and not so many aches & pains.

No fuel injection or electrics to worry about so your just as safe in rural Bosnia as you would be in central Birmingham, anyone thats savvy with a spanner can fix it...

I must say though punctures were a bit of a bugger with the inner tube and all. If your going on a long trip, it really does become homely but don't expect to go much over 55mph..... Oh and lets just say Norway and no heated grips could be testing at times..

If you were travelling solo you could probably take your kitchen, dining room & bathroom with you in the sidecar though!
