Euro MC Licence Required in Sweden ?

Hi,

In 2002, I rented a motorcycle in Stockholm from a company called MABI.

I called the company yesterday morning, and they tell me thier insurance company will only let them rent to someone with a european motorcycle license. Since I have a US license ... I'm out of luck.

Any suggestions on what to do ? I was hoping to rent a motorcycle for short trips out of Stockholm in two weeks time. The other companies I find on the internet that rent motorcycles don't seem to be located in or near Stockholm.

Will they hire you a bike if you have an IDP(international license)? If so it should be easy enough to get one of those.See the relevant topic on the left side, under the heading of trip planning, theres a section there about where to get IDP's from.

Hi,

I asked a Swedish friend of mine to look into this. He checked with two companies that rent motorcycles in Stockholm (MABI and MCVARUHUSET). Both will only rent to folks with a special EU motorcycle license and both blame this on the same insurance company, called IF (?). Even a regular Swedish MC license isn't sufficient.

I guess I’ll be spending more time in trains than I was expecting to. Can anyone explain this?
