Entering Croatia
 

I've ridden through western Europe for the past 2 years but, now I have my sights set on the Adriatic coast of Croatia.

Can I just show up at the border & get all the nescessary paper work?...or will I have to get a visa beforehand? Any tips are much appreciated.

Hi,
If you are citizen of EU and most other europian countries, you dont need visa and your passport and green card is everything you need. For the rest of the world I cannot exact tell you, but Croatia is wide open country so dont expect birocratic formalities on a border. Which country do you come from?

check at your ambasy for a visa, I guess you dont need it! Anyway, entering Croatia is not more complicate that entering EU, it is very simple :-)

We had no problem last year. A quick passport check and we were in. Some of the coastal road surface is dodgy, especially on the bends. If your heading in that direction anyway, check out Slovenia. Fantastic Alpine scenery and friendly locals. It's also amazingly cheap.

We entered Croatia from Italy & Slovenia, no problem.

We then entered Montenegro via Croatia and returned to Croatia from same, no problem.

I had insurance, but I can't remember if anyone asked. Don't think so.

Croatia is beautiful, very nice people too.

BUT, I've hear some rumors lately, that Croatia took a new law for tourists - all the travelling tourists have to report their location of staying for night to local police office.

Don't know what it's good for or does this law even has bee approved for goverment yet, but check it out from the border officials when entering.

that is completely wrong!! Where have you heard this nonsense?? That never was and surely will never be! Croatia is absolutely safe and open country and there is no more risk than in EU countries. Welcome,

Good to hear it's not true. The story was in some motorcycle news site i think. There were problems with that motorcyclist and other tourists pollute the camping places etc. So if the police knows where and who stayed for night, they know who to contact with when something happends. Matbe it was just a plan for local goverment, don't know exacly.

I've ridden through Croatia for each of the past two years - using my Canadian registered motorcycle, and my Canadian passport.

Absolutly NO problems of any kind whatsoever, average stopping time at the border crossing about 30 seconds each way.

Canadian citizens don't need a visa, and no-one has ever asked me for motorcycle registration papers, insurance, etc., although I presume that you must carry liability insurance, same as everywhere else in the world.

NB that to get to Croatia from Italy you need to pass through a short stretch of Slovenia, this is also a very hospitable country, no formalities of any kind there either.

Have a great time in Croatia, it is one of my favourite countries in Europe.
