Dubrovnik to Skopje which route? What to see?

Hello,
I am working on details of a small Balkan Tour. I should be on my way around 25th of May.

The route starts at Milano, via Trieste, and cost line of Adriatic until Dubrovnik. Than I need to go to Skopje via Montenegro.

I am told Montenegro is all nature and great scenary, and Skopje is beatifull as a city.

Please share your experience and information for below;
- What would you advise to see in Montenegro?
- Which one is the best route from Dubrovnik to Skopje?

Overall any new information about Montenegro, Kosovo and macedonia will be appreciated.

Best Regards

Hi Nomad,
there are couple of ways to get to Macedonia from Montenegro. Depends if you want highways or mountain twisties.
I recommend the most scenic ride, (mountains, rivers and vistas)which is from Budva to Podgorica, than take the road to Kolasin (the Tara river canyon) awesome, awesome ride!!!
From Kolasin take the road to Rozaje, and then the mountain border road with Kosovo on 2400m height, which will bring you to the city of Pec in Kosovo.

Kosovo is shit, and people drive like idiots, so be very very careful!
From Pec you can take the highway to Prishtina, then to Skopje, which is pretty straightforward, but ugly, there is nothing to see and cars drive like idiots again.

If you want to take the back roads from Pec, find any road that goes to Prizren, than take the back roads to the border crossing Jazhince with Macedonia. that road is pretty scenery and not clogged with stolen BMW and Mercedeses that run on diesel and run over bikers.

If you want to get quickly from Budva to Skopje - go trough Albania, take the highway to Prizren, and then Uroshevac (Ferizaj) and Skopje. The road is great but boring as a 55y old hooker.

I suggest the first one! The mountain passes should be clear of snow.
I'm going to Dubrovnik this friday, and I'll be taking the first route. On may 30 will ride back, so If you are in Dubrovnik by then - lemme know, we'll ride together, we are a group of 4 bikers.

If you are in Skopje by 10 of June, lemme know if you need help with accommodation. I can hook you up with some descent and cheap places to stay
cheers

Dear Maro,
Thank you for the detailed information about Montenegro.
Here is my travel plan,
If all goes well I shoul be riding back from Milan on 25th of May.
Iplan on heading to Croatia coast line as mentioned and probabily hit Montenegro pn 26th or 27th.

The time is short, and planning is on the way. I will keep the HU posted.

Burak.

Too bad I did not see this before. If you are in Montenegro and care to drink a beer in Podgorica, just drop me a line here and I will get in touch with you tomorrow. Cheers!

Koman - Fierzë - Kukes - Peshkopi

Also a pity I didn't see this post before. Last year I was in Albania. From Shköder drove to Koman where you can take the Ferry to Fierzë. Beautiful scenery.

From there you can continue to Kukes (basic hotel in centre of the city for 20€). You could then continue east to Kosovo (Prizren) but time permitting you can also drive to the south of Macedonia first. This would mean taking the pretty rough Kukes-Peshkopi track. Wonderful. From Peshkopi things get easier and you can continue your way onto superb Lake Ohrid. If you're in hurry I believe it should be feasible to make it to Skopje in half a day or so.

I'm currently underway, doing a clockwise circle Slovakia, Hungary (jump), currently in the Northern Romanian, going to Bulgaria - probably spend a week and a half here before jumping (read: drive through) to the Adrian sea going north from there.

Would be fun to meet up to compare notes;-), I'll be in Trieste around 15th -16th of August (well that is the plan).
