dirt roads in belgium/netherlands/northern-france

hi,

a friendly question for all friendly belgian/dutch/french enduro-riders here...

we're looking for a winter playground... some nice gravel/dirt/sand stretches in belgium or just across the border (preferently nearby so that we can get there in winter without freezing to death on our bikes before arrival) which are open to motorbikes.

we we're suprised to find some open roads in the ardennes, but wonder if there's anything closer to Antwerp where one can exercise (a short track will do)... and a real sand stretch or an open terrain would be really nice of course (trui says there's something like that near the harbour in rotterdam but isn't sure where or what)... and we were also wondering whether it's allowed to ride on the beach somewhere...

anyone any good ideas? please?

thanks a lot

There are many dirtroads in Belgium. More then we think.

Legally: any road / track with no clear sign saying it is privat or saying no motorised vehicles allowed is OK to ride on to. Under 'road' or 'track' you should consider anything wide enough to take a tractor or car.

BUT: in the Ardennes there is a major exception: any forrest road is not allowed with motorised vehicles. And some of the guys keeping an eye on it take this quite narrow: if there is a tree left and a tree to the right you have a forrest road.

Best places regions to go exploring I've tried:
* Waals Brabant (geen problemen als je van prive afblijft)
* Henegouwen

Just over the border is not that easy. If you stay close enough to 'major industrialized agricultural' areas in France it is easy to ride endless dirt roads. Th farmers need them and maintain them in a reasonable state. But it is by far not the best scenery.
