Clearing Agent Izmir Turkey

Hello everyone.

We (a Swiss couple) are currently travelling in Australia.

We'll ship our vehicle with Aussie Rego (sorry not a bike....:nono:) to Izmir Turkey in May/June 2013.
Can someone recommend a clearing agent in Izmir (our vehicle arrives in a container)?

Cheers

sam

You dont need an agent for paperwork and can do it yourself..Its free and recommended by our government..If you decide to do so and save about 400 USD., I will write down all the paperwork procedure here..

Also your shipping agent in İzmir will tell you how to do it...Your number plate and personal information needed to be written on the application letter..It will be stamped on your passport page with a permission of staying up to 6 months.(not exceeding insurance period)..

What you must do yourself before going to customs port is:
1-meet the shipment agent in izmir and buy the ordino(bill of loading) and pay local expenses such as unloading and ware house.
2-If you dont have a green insurance covering Turkey, buy a green insurance here or normal turkish traffic insurance best for your staying period..a copy of the vehicle document is ok for that.
You will buy it here.
Check the address in İzmir at the bottom of the page.

Hi Mehmet

Thanx for the very interesting response.
We are a bit confused now, but this is just because shipping a car over such a long distance is new for us!

Our agency in Australia (cargoonline.com.au) told us we have to google a clearing agency in Izmir and make arrangements there.
That's why we tried to contact someone in Izmir.
We made a contact and the offer is between USD 1700.- to USD 2000.- for clearing the container and official expenses, thats how they call it.
This fare should cover all our expenses exluding the insurance.

With the costs at the Adelaide port, the actuall shipping costs and the costs in Izmir are we approx. USD 5400.- exclusive insurance while the container is on sea. Are these costs okay?

So do you think we don't need a Agency in Izmir and there would be a way to clear the container and go through customs withouth agent?

Cheers sam

Gave you some tips friendly as I always stand beside bikers here, do similar paperwork in İstanbul several times each year, and will not recommend a person, club etc. anymore.

Normal price of the customs agent is between 400-500 USD excluding land service, ware house expenses and insurance..

You can save this also by doing the paperwork yourself..Its not an import-export procedure..You will fill an application letter (handwritten) to the port customs management, and your vehicle with number plate will be stamped on your passport page after checked by a customs officer..Thats all..

For this purpose,EU. laws are valid here..

Hope been useful and helpful, not interesting..

Dear Mehmet

Thank you very much again for your reply.

I think you got me wrong. My english's probably not good enough, sorry about that. I used the word interesting as meaning of very useful for me, or very good to know for me, sort of that.

I'm thankfull for every help I can get, especially if someone local takes the time like you.
Hope this was explained well enough.....-))

I'll make further enquiries with my shipping company and probably ask you again if you don't mind.

Cheers from Australia

Sam
