Carnet for Eastern Europe

Hi, I'm Australian and planning to travel through the following non EU countries during the European summer: Croatia, Bosnia, Albania, Turkey, Ukraine and Swizerland. I have the appropriate documents for EU countries but I'm not sure of the requirements for these non EUcountries. Do I need a carnet or any other special documents to travel through these countries by bike?

I cannot answer for Ukraine, the rest I went through myself and have not used a carnet page at all

Since when was Switzerland a non EU country?

For the Balkans you may need individual Green Card insurance(similar to our CTP)
but if you pay a bit more, you can get the whole of the EU(as well as the Balkans), look around on here for a link, I cannot remember off hand.

Don't forget Montenegro, one of the best riding countries I have ever been to, the scenery and roads are spectacular, check out my blog for a taste, last year starting on this day when I entered from Albania

http://travellingstrom.com/2012/05/18/ I was there for nearly a week, too little time

Cheers
TS

I'm heading over from Aus near the end of June and was wanting to do much the same ride. As far as I know we don't need any carnet at all.

What I need to find out is what is needed in the way of visa's for these countries, as I think Croatia becomes part of the EU list of nations from end of June this year.

As mentioned, just need to have a appropriate insurance to cover you in all these countries.

Are you getting a bike over there or taking one from home here in Australia?

I've got a bike there I bought last year, Yamaha TDM-850, sitting in the cold of France, bbrrrrrr.

When are you planing on going and for how long?

Cheers,
Paul

For a motorcycle, you should not need a carnet to do those countries.

And I live in Europe...:confused1:

That's a bit weird. :innocent:
The Swiss have a very proud history of independence from everybody and just about everything which is one reason why such organisations as the International Red Cross have their HQs there.

On the other hand, Norway is not a member of the EU either: they had more sense when the UK and Denmark threw in their hand back in the 70s.

I've never heard of a carnet being used anywhere on the continent of Europe; member of the EU or not.

G'day rharden, I'm an Aussie traveling Europe with an australian rego bike I shipped a few years back. You don't need a carnet for any of the countries you mention. Depending on what green card insurance you get you may have to get third party ( green card insurance) for some of the countries. Mine currently doesn't cover me for a few you mention, but can buy when you get there. I will be in crotia next week.

By the way, check what you need visa wise for Ukraine - I was told I didn't need one, but Aussies do, ,and it takes a while, don't expect to get it at the boarder.
