Campsites in Eastern Europe

Hi there,

Later this week, I will be travelling to Estonia from Belgium, via Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. I'm trying to break the trip up into about 800km chunks and having never travelled in Eastern Europe before in earnest, I'm wondering about places to camp. The map of the route will be something like:

Can anyone recommend nice places in the East German or Lithuanian part of this route?

Thanks for any help.

David

It might be a bit south of your route but Camping Waldbad at Colditz is an excellent stop off in the old GDR.

Sounds good, but probably a bit far off track :)

Ive got back a couple of weeks ago from a UK to Finland and return via Estonia.

In Estonia (in Parnu) we found a bikers bar camp site (only it wasnt for tents) but they had fab wooden huts with 2 single beds and a heater too !! it cost about £22 a night for a hut. The bar was fab, the food was better and the beer was even better !!

In Latvia we found a small farm that charged us £3 per tent, cheap clean and basic.

In Lithunia we camped at a large site on a lake that borders the old bit of russia, Poland and Lithunia. I think it was about £7 per tent. very clean and very peaceful.

I also stopped at Colditz (in fact it was that nice I stayed for 2 nights).

It took the best part of 2 days to get thru poland, the roads are horrible !!!! average was about 40 miles per hour !! even the new motorway (toll by the way) was closed to 1 lane for repairs

its not too far off your route prob only a couple of hours if you use the autobahn.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask more questions

Cheers
Will

There's a nice campsite in Sigulda in Latvia - the bathroom facilities may not be the best but it's a lovely location next to the river and you can take a cable car up the hill to the town......there was also a really pretty little camp site in Suwalki in Poland - there's an old municipal one near the town which is a dump - but across the lake near a pink church is a much better site - and they can offer really good grub:thumbup1:

Since you're passing south of Berlin - there's a nice campsite on thze southern tip of lake Schwielow, south-west of Potsdam. The nearest village is called Ferch.

Not meaning to criticise your route :innocent: but the area north of Berlin, the lake area of Brandenburg, is more rewarding. There you will come across lots of really nice campsites. Very laid back.

Thanks for the tips.

Do you by any chance, have co-ords for this? Sounds interesting

quick reply because im shooting out

put this in google maps and it will give you the location

5144 @54.417964, 22.761272

as long as your on that road you cant miss it, its got a hotel complex and cabins but the camping is on the same site but far enough away for peace and quiet,

when I get time I will try and post some pics

Cheers
