Tell us about Poland please

Hello,
two friends and me are considering a little bit of offroad/gravel road touring and exploring. We have about ten days and we will probably be able to trailer the bikes.

All of us are on single cylinder enduros with light luggage. We are looking to camp as much as possible, generally speaking rather in the wild than on official camp grounds, although a shower now and then is planned

To make a short story even shorter: I had the Idea of going to Poland. It's conveniently reachable from Western Germany in a long day on the Autobahn, should have a lot of Gravel to ride on and Forests to hang the Hammock.

After a quick google I didn't find to much, so what can you tell us about Poland?

Cheers,
buebo

Hi buebo
What do you want to know about Poland?
If you want to ride in forest it is forrbiden like in all Europe.
Free camping is possible but it is not popular in Poland. We have not many camping grounds and in this spring time many of them will be closed.
The are many bikes and quads in Poland and my friends every week going somewhere in forest to ride.
If you have any questions ask fast becouse tommorow evening I will start for my trip to Iran.

cheers
Bartosz

We are some guys from Sweden who plan to go to Polen this summer. What do you think about our planned trip? See enclosed GPS track. NOTE! Save the file and take away the .pdf.

The file is not a reel .pdf file. You can not open it in Acrobat. I have tryed to attach a .gdb file but it dont work for me. You have to save the file and change it. Take away the .pdf in the file name.

Hi there,
if there's any information required to answer just ask for it, I think the basics are covered in the initial post, though...

So offroading is forbidden in Poland? How about forest tracks, gravel roads and such? In Germany basically everything that isn't tarmac is forbidden unless you have some sort of special permit (forest worker, hunter, farmer, etc.), but then again it's probably the most densly populated and strictly regulated country in the EU...

How about wild camping? Is it generally forbidden or pretty much tolerated? I have yet to get my hands on a guide book covering these questions, but judging from looking on a couple of maps and google earth the border area between the czech republic and poland looks promising...

The again we're open to any suggestions and so far it's nothing more then an idea...

Thanks for any input

Hi buebo,

I was riding through Poland about Easter. My intention was not go offroad but taking small and back streets. If you like flat areas then I would suggest to go to Masuria otherwise if you prefer mountains then I would recommend the border region to czech republic or slovakia.

Not wanting to hijack this thread, but does anyone know the exact location of the "Flytrap" ?

It is in the Sudeten Mountains, in the Czech Republic near the border with Poland also the Wenceslas Mine.

Thanks

I have to say it was a bit creepy, not helped by the echoing chants from some church. Camera skew whiff as I was alone and had to rest it on the ground.
