Brindisi to Igoumeníta

Hi Folks,

I am trying to find alternative routes from UK to Turkey>Iran>Bahrain. Now, I am considering take a ferry from Brindisi to Igoumenita and try to follow the route of Kevin & Julia (GlobeBusters) do. I've just checked the ferry prices and they are quite reasonable too. My question is, shell I book in advance or is it easy to find ferry when I arrive to Brindisi?
Thanks a lot

Hi Ozhan u.

We used that route in March 2005. We turned up on the day and had no problem getting tickets... there was loads of room.

We took the cheapest fare and slept in the bar on the seats.

Blu Star ferries often do motorcycles for free, so check out their timetable / prices at the link below... you may save yourself some hard earned dosh!

I think it depends on season. If you go in August and if you want a cabin, you may need to book in advance or be prepared not to get on the first boat leaving.

Naturally people will turn back to Greece that period (end of season) but also I do not believe you have a promblem. Many lines daily, companies and......how much persons will return????? Too much????.
If you want to be sure make a phone in a company 2-3 days before your travel begin.

Take a look to this link (lot of ferries info, maps, campings etc).I think is very useful

Just back from a trip. Took the ferry from Ancona to Patras and back. Booked in advance, but was not needed.
Always plenty of place if you are with a bike and happy with deck accomodation.

With internal Greec feries we had great help from Supercagro. A company based in Patras. Don't have the phonenumber on me here.

Keep your wits about you if you are spending any time (translation = even stopping at a red light) in Brindisi. I've been through there a few times, and it is kind of the armpit of Europe - it's where a lot of drifters and riff-raff wind up when they get as far south as they can go, and then realize they can't go much further. In other words, I think theft is a much more serious concern in Brindisi than it would be anywhere else in Italy.

I'm not suggesting you avoid the place - just that you might want to pay a little extra for indoor parking if you have to overnight, and for goodness sake, don't leave your bike and gear unattended for a moment, especially in the places where folks need to spend time waiting.

Michael
