Hi,

I'm sitting next to Cecilia here in the net cafe in Leh and she has been through most, if not all the countries you want to cross. Check out the country info on her web page Fernweh Adventures.

Note that vehicles are only allowed three days in Azerbaijan and when entering Georgia you must indicate the exact border crossing in Georgia through which you want to leave or you may have problems.

Well Beddhist, that`s surely almost everything that we are looking for.Tnx.We need to stay in Baku for at least couple of days so we find that the only way for us is to get in Azer from Georgia,on the same day go to Baku, stay there for next day, than to go to Iran, and then again go back to Azer and Baku for another 2 days :) If i understand ok tranzit visa for Azer is 3 days but there is no limit of how many times you can go in and out .. Anyway .. good opertunity for us to see Iran also, and maybe go to Teheran as well ..

The Azerbaijan visa can be tricky and you need to make sure you understand that. I was issued one in Istanbul and I had 30 days to enter the country from the day I recieved the Visa. Once I entered the country, I had 30 days in the country. A British traveller and his companion got turned back at the Georgia Azeri border and had to spend a couple days in Tbilisi getting a new Azeri visa.

Relative to the vehicle, I was issued a 3 day entry into Azer. for my vehicle and the only way to extend that is to put down a deposit of several thousand dollars with the Customs guys at the border or in Baku. As I was travelling to Turmenbashi, I left my bike with Customs in the Baku ferry area(hey free secure parking) and wandered about. I had connections with BP and the US Embassy involved in trying to get me more days for my bike but no luck.

BUT the Dutch couple I travelled with in MOngolia managed a 10 day entry into Azer for their Lada Nivea without paying any sort of guarantee. They entered via Georgia but another border from the main one I took...

SO I'm not sure what to tell you other than don't be surprised or stressed...

PS I travelled through there in May of 2007

Tnx MotoEdde, i`m pretty sure that the Lada Niva solve the duch`s problem :) or perhaps they left a deposit of 50$ for the car :D .. do you know maybe on what boarder do they cross ? And if there is definitly no other way,we will transit Azer to Iran, Do you also know, is the Iran/Turkey boarder open ? I`ve heard that it`s closed .. In that case stuff will be much more complex for us ..

beddhist 15 Jul 2007 12:40

Iran/Turkey border is open, see the thread on fuel problems in Iran.
