Arctic through Eastern Europe and beyond.

Hi, Im really new to this stuff so forgive me if I have done something incorrectly. I am an Australian living in Tromsø in far Northern Norway. I ride a Honda Transalp 400 and did a 6000 klm trip through Scandinavia last year. This year starting in June I plan to head down through The Baltic States then through Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and back to Tromsø. Five weeks in total so Im just asking if anyone has any experience in these areas in regards to camping /accomodation, or if anyone is keen to catch up for a chat along the way?
Thanks,
Arcticalp

Hi Arcticalp!
Welcome to the HUBB!
I did a similar ride last year in August, though I started in Germany, rode to Denmark, Sweden, Finland, St. Petersburg, Baltic States, Poland and back. It took me 4 weeks. I had quite tight schedule and couldn't stay any longer than two nights in one place, so first thing I recommend you is to rethink the 5 weeks. It's a long trip and if you want to really enjoy some of the places, then take more time and less kms.
As you probably know, living in Scandinavia is expensive, so is accomodation and fuel. In the Baltics and Poland it's cheaper.
I did wild-camping in Scandinavia, stayed in youth-hostels, when I've been to bigger cities and did some couchsurfing, which I can recommend to everyone! Accomodation in Germany and the Netherlands is expensive, so I'd suggest to do couchsurfing or camping there. Better not try wild-camping in Germany, but you shouldn't have problems, if you ask a farmer to camp on his field or backyard.
If you have further questions, feel free to msg me and if you plan to visit Bonn and Cologne, you can count on my sleeping-couch! =)

Welcome to HU!

I've moved your thread to the correct area, although it could have gone into Route Planning too! Once you're on the road, you can post the story of your trip on Ride Tales.

Be sure to contact the HU Communities too - see Connect on the menu.

Hi ArcticAlp

Germany accommodation can be expensive but camping is a bit cheaper.
I lived in Germany for a number of years and have also toured there on my bikes
Up north i would recommend Osnabruck, the old Concentration camp at Bergen Belsen, and of course Berlin as you come further down south then the Black Forest are good, if remember correctly the B500 is the road that goes over the top, i think its between Baden Baden and Freudenstadt, it a really good biking road. Also following the southern border along Lake Konstanz is great too as its in Bavaria, Then you have Garmish PartenKirchen and along to Berchesgarten where you can get to the Eagles Nest (Hitlers house on the mountain)What awesome views. I really like Germany and go riding there as often as i can.
Sorry I don't have info on other areas

hope this helps
