Across Portugal & Spain Setubal-Murcia Offroad

Hi Folks, I have been riding and exploring Spain a lot this last two years - mainly onroad and some hard pack tracks.

I'd really like to plan an adventure tour from Setubal in Portugal to Murcia in Spain, across Spain's heartlands - but riding primarily tracks and off road.

I am struggling to get maps of sufficient detail to define the tracks and develop a route (Spain's roads are changing so fast right now the map makers don't seem to keep up - even Garmin are very far behind!).

I'd appreciate any feedback on where I can get the relevant maps - what the laws might now be pertaining to riding these tracks and also what the laws would be regarding rough camping on these types of tracks in Spain.

Sounds good, but trail bikes destroy trails.

Thanks Denis - Groups of trail riders do destroy trails - seen it myself here in UK. However roads that were meant to be traversed (by 4*4's, farm vehicles and others) such as cross country - unpaved - tracks wont be destroyed by a solitary cross country traveller!

Hi Kahuna

I agree - farm tracks and made trails are perfect for bikes. But I refer to footpaths especially in France where they have been totally destroyed by bikes, in groups as you say; I've seen up to 15 at a time. Ive seen cuts in the trail a metre deep; started by bikes and continued by rain. And much more. But the rough roads you want will be great fun....

Best wishes
