Need a good route through France - HUMM

Hey guys

I supposed I maybe should have posted this thread in "motorcycle events" but it is in actual fact more about the place than the event! Also, apologies if there is a thread already of similar content, but I did search.

I am heading down to the Pyrennees next week for HUMM and want to know a good and potentially scenic (but maybe not time-consuming) route from Cherbourg, down there. We will be riding from Cherbourg the morning of 25th and then have 4 days and 3 nights to get down there.

I have been to France before but never riding/driving and from what I can remember they have a superb infrastructure which means few gems of biking roads - but I dont know!

We will be camping all the way down so maybe the way is plot is by biker friendly campsites?

We also have the same amount of time to get back to Cherbourg, so have the opportunity to do two routes. :confused1:

All info and recommendations welcomed pleeeeeeeeease!

Ta!

Char

route suggestion

Hi Charlotte,I too will be riding down to Spain, but not until next year.I have realtives who live in the South of France and I asked them for a route some time back. Please find below the route suggested to me, however depending on where in the Pyrennees the HUMMis you may have to alter the final leg to suit.QUOTEHi Lee,Best route for scenery and cost is Portsmouth-L'Harve then head past Orleans and then either take the A20 motorway or the N20 scenic route which takes you through the Dordogne and Lot Valleys and you could stop off at Sarlat which is gorgeous, then head for Toulouse/ Perpignan/ Barcel- ona.UNQUOTE,I realise you have booked ferries and have a final destination is planned but this may still be of some help ???Regards and have a safe tripLee

We rode down from Caen to Spain a few years ago. We had a bit less time than you to get there so made Bordeaux the first day and near Burgos the second. The motorway from Bordeaux towards the border is boring, horrible and full of noisy, smelly lorries. I'm sure there are more pleasant and scenic routes if you have a bit more time. We're catching the ferry to Santander for the HUMM but we're coming back through France.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
