The 2 Irish Guys on route 2 Poland ran out of fuel near Watford Gap

Hi guys sorry I never asked if you were on the Hubb, but if you are then have a great journey. I ran out of fuel myself a week ago. I work on the Motorway and came across this guy whod ran out of fuel. We waited with him and offered protection while his mate returned with the good stuff.

One was on a new 650 gs and the other a 1150 BMW so good to chat guys and have a great round trip back to Ireland. Its always great to come across bikers who are still upright, as in my line of work they sometimes are not !

I thought it was going to be a joke..... but it's not , it's true  it doesn't bode well for their onward journey into eastern Europe if they are running out of fuel near London :oops2:

What were you protecting them from ? :confused1:Themselves :innocent:

lorries drifting into the hard-shoulder I would imagine.

Watford Gap is J 17 M1 just into Northamptonshire. One of the guys was on a new bike I think he may have been seeing how far he could go. He was within 1.5 miles of the services, unfotunatley that included crossing another motorway.

Yeah as well as a Love for bikes I am a Traffic Officer with the Highways Agency (cant wait for the response). Its a great job we only hold up Traffic to make the roads safer for all. Spot on about the LGVs drifting onto the Hard Shoulder its frightening how often it happens.

Another big threat is getting in the blind spot of foreign lorries we see the results of this daily. Then theres the debris, tyres, exhausts and hot tubs you name it and it ends up on the motorway. As soon as we know about dangers we remove them as quick as we can but we are restricted to 70 mph so its not always as quick as we like.

We are not interested in knicking people we are here to help. The pays not great but no two days are the same and you get to meet some great people.

I am hoping we can do lots of promo work at the bike show next year !:scooter:

I remember, as a kid, my dad telling me about the geographic significance of Watford Gap for the Romans, canal builders and railway etc.

Being a 'southern softie', it also has great cultural significance. :)

There's an interesting article about it on Wikipedia.

Cheers Stephan I will look it up. There is still Motorway, Railway and Canal at watford gap it makes it a very noisey place to work out of but a stroll up the canal past the locks is always an enjoyable escape.

One of the maintenance guys remembers cutting the grass division between the cariage ways before the instilation of the barriers. Of course up the hill we have the M 45 which Jaguar used to use as a speed testing ground.
