Tyres... Again!

I have decided for my trip I need two sets of tyres, a dual purpose tyre and a set of agressive dirt orientataed tyres.. So now it comes down to choosing...

Trellesports T-644 or Conti TKC80's

and for the 'dirt' tyre..

Mich T63's or Pirelli MT21...

Please, your views....

Metusuk (Nick),

I'd opt for the Trellesports/Trelleborgs any day. I have just fitted them to my Yamaha XT600E. Very cost effective and reliable 50% Road / 50% Offroad tyres. Recently picked for the British Army (Royal Corps of Signals) Dispatch Bikes and used by the Swedish Army too (in heavy snow one would imagine). If it's good enough for these brave lads then it's certainly good enough for me...

They are half the price of the Conti's!!!! The two look very similar although I am told the Trelleborgs are slightly more robust (Agricultural).

Your trip sounds very interesting... Stay safe and ride carefully (on your Trelleborgs that is).

Trellesport

Thanks! I'm leaning toward the Trelleborgs too and maybe a set of MT21's for when they need changing, My sister is in the RLC out in Iraq so I'm going to get her to ask the boys out there if they rate them... Sometimes the kit is just bought because its cheapest, not the best.

Tyres... Carnets... I just need to pack it all unpack it all and then keep panicing... Roll on the 10th March!!!

Thank her too from me for risking her life for my sorry arse!

would be great to get some feedback on the treeleborgs as they seem to tick all the boxes especially on price.

I have recieved my trelleborgs and my MT21's.

The MT21's exactly what I wanted.. spot on...

Now the trelleborgs....

The tread pattern is VERY agressive considering, but the concern for me is how soft the rubber is and how thin and flexible the carcass is.... this could be just because I have the MT21's next to them, but I'm really concerned they will wear out fast, and be hugely suspectible to sidewall damage becase they feel thin and to pliable....

So what now? do I put them on the bike and find out myself on my trip, or leave them behind take a set of tkc80's and try them in this country????? :confused1::stormy::helpsmilie:

Cheers for the helpful feedback that certainly makes a difference. I would give them a try over here and see how they perform before comitting to taking them on any extended trip. As for the MT21 s I have had a few sets over the years and they always seem to do a good job.

I did get to morocco and back using cheng shins on my TTR 250 and i did loads of serious off road stuff throughout spain and they never punctured and lasted well.

Perhaps the trellebourgs will be OK.

Cheers Good Luck:scooter:

These have a good reputation and i have only seen positive feeback. They do 'old style' like
dunlop universals that are reasonable on and offroad. As with all things a compromise but means you wouldn't need to change tyre for different terrains. They do stand up well to touring.
