Equipping the Bike - what's the best gear? Anything to do with the bikes equipment, saddlebags, etc. Questions on repairs and maintenance of the bike itself belong in the Brand Specific Tech Forums.

Tyres .....

Since it was a hard choice for me to decide witch tyres to use... here is some info:

I started with Continental TCK-80 at front and a Dunlop D604 (trail max) at the rear.

After 18.000 Km the TCK-80 was worn down... I had 1 puncture (europe to India) and the tyre is very easy to take of and on the rim.

The Dunlop lasted (as could be expected) a bit longer but at 22.000 it was totally worn.

Both tyres start to deform a bit at the end of there life-span... The TCK-80 even "whobbles" a bit at certain speeds. The Dunlop shows "scarry" bumps.

Now I have Bridge-stone trailwings (front and rear)... all I could get on short notice in Bangkok (continental just gone bust :-( .. so no TCK-80)

If it was up to me I would go for a TCK-80 at the front again... It give's great stability off-road and is still very good on-road.

The Dunlop was OK, but I guess any andurance-tyre at the rear will do... as long as it does not wear to fast (so no TCK-80)

I'll let you know how the trailwings work out.

Continental isn't bust.
And they still manufacture TKC-80s. At least
according to their website and from information I gathered from another forum.

Hi ;

I have previously used Metzeler MCE Karoo and Pirelli MT21. Both of htem where quite fine. Good traction ,puncture resistant and lasted almost 15,000 km.
Yes, they make vibration and noise.But i think comfort isnt the primary objective in such routes.
Therefore i will again use MCE Karoo, as i am about to head to same direction as you.

OK... ok....

Maybe I did not express myself clearly Ofcourse Continental is not "bust" And, yes, they still make the TCK-80 tyre...

BUT....

The Continental-importer in bangkok, Thailand... has gone "bust" a few weeks ago... So that's why I can't get a TCK-80.. since I am in Thailand curently....

Hi I have just found a Dunlop TrailMax 90/90 21 tyre in Ushuaia Argentina, seems to be the only tyre available in town. I have a question - does the paint mark go next to the valve or opposite?

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
