Sump guard / bash plate

I have been unable to find an existing aluminium bash plate for my bike (why is EVERYTHING geared towards BMWs?); so I am going to have one made. Does anybody have any experience of this or know of a good metal fabricators in or near London. I don't see any necessity of using a motorbike specific company as any good fabricators can use my existing plastic bash plate as a template (and should cost less). Or am I missing something here? Thanks.

there must be hundred's of good little fabricators in the back streets of london. your right about the bmw bit but you cant blame the market as there's loads of ewan/charlie wannabee's out there buying up the beemer and accesories so it looks good going down shop/parked in garage.
you did'nt mention what bike you ride? someone on here might know where to get your part off the shelf.

fabricating a bash plate should be pretty simple (bit tricky welding aluminium though)

Depending on the space you have you could incorporate an old army ammo box into it, great protection and ideal for tool storage/weight distribution. If I needed another bash plate thats the way I'd go. Not light though and not as pretty as a touratech-sump-guard-and-toolbox-combo-in-your-choice-of-anodised-finishes job

I ride an Aprilia Pegaso 650 Trail, and I have trawled the web for existing bash plates with no joy. Having said that, if somebody knows better then please expose my ignorance. Henryuk, pretty is not a factor, cheap but effective is far more important to me. There is plenty of underseat storage space for tools, so I'm after a nice simple bash plate with no frills, no designer logos, and no pictures of Ewan Macgregor.

bash plate

not sure what you ride but I stumbled across these. 4mm Al, can be powerder coated or left raw.

If going to a non bike fabricator/workshop make sure they disconnect the battery before welding... Ive learnt the hard way.

How about a carbon fibre plate?, you could get your plastic one used as a former.

I know they're not as stong as ali, but my pro-carbon one on my KTM exc-F has taken a big hit from a hidden rock during a race & got off with a reasonable scuff (DNF'd due the flat front though!!).

But they are smooth in the lines and fit really close to the frame and can be formed around casings where getting an ali fab could be difficult.

Might be worth a punt... don't think it fits the cheap criteria though... sorry.

Failing that, give someone like Patsy Quick a shout (Team Desert Rose), she'll know someone who can fab up a 'proper' rally gaurd.. again, probably not cheap.... but tricker than Paul Daniels whose just been out-tricked by Houdini.
