Soft Panniers/luggage

Hi All,

I read a thread on here a few month ago about a guy who was researching overlanding soft luggage and was planning on developing the ideal kit!
I am in the market now for a waterproof holdall and am wondering if his design is available yet.

Anyone remember who the guy is?

I think this would be it, found via a simple search:

Hi Your probably talking about the luggage system I have been developing, However cost and development time have been ongoing along with an injury slowing everything down, It however has ended up that I do not feel there is enough profit for the time involved and as such have now cancelled the project. tchus jake

Sorry to hear that the development has stopped. I guess It'll be tesco bags again!

Thanks Motoreiter, I did a search but found nothing so had to make the call for help. I'm trying not to focus on the conclusion that I'm a luddite.

Thanks everyone.

Happy travels.

Anyone tried the Giant Loop luggage system ?

Giant Loop™Moto - Giant Loop - adventure-spec.com: Off-Road Adventure Motorcycling gear,UK,enduro,rally,rallye,touring,rtw,mx

I dont have a pannier frame as yet and have been wondering if one is actually necessary (mostly a result of my unsuccessful hunt for a pannier frame for my XT600E)

At first glance this looks like a good option, however not sure how practical it is. I will be fitting a luggage rack but this may not give sufficient options for strapping on lose items. This luggage system (great basin)takes +50liters...should fit a bundle of stuff.

At £300, this is only a small discount to a pannier system.

I actually swichted from the Touratech Panniers to the Giant Loop. You don't need a fugly pannier frame, the boxes are a pain to take of and put back on again, especially if you have a couple of flights to climb to get to your room and it's probably gonna be better offroad. Another bonus is that it fits virtually any bike with a second seat, so I can use it on my street bike as well.

Haven't really tried it yet, other then putting it under the shower for 15 Minutes. Waterproof so far. :smartass:

Sounds good :thumbup1:
Have you bought the Coyote or the Great Basin ? - the Coyote looks easier to use but with less packing space.....so Id prob pick up the GB.

Pacsafe

i m still un decided, soft or hard! However just been on the Pacsafe website and saw the C35L Stealth Camera bag. I think this could be used to line the inside of a soft pannier for the biggest problem of security. basically its a meshed bag with wire draw string which can be locked . easier to view rather than me describe. or the urban 28l back pack as a pannier.

just a thought :confused1:

That would work. Those locks are relatively easily smashed off though.

It's a LOT harder than people realize. Good on you for pursuing it - I bet you learned a ton in the process.
