Repair Kit
 

In planning for a 6 month trip, what would you "seasoned" travelers recomend in way of a repair kit? I already plan to bring:

Tire repair kit (w/ spare plugs)
Leatherman
wire ties
duct tape
jb weld
bailing wire

Not sure what Baling Wire but I suspect that you'd be better off with stainless Lockwire.

Tools that you take are pretty dependent on your mechanical skills? You also have not said what bike you're riding? Worth mentioning in case someone reads this thread who is aware of particular issues with that bike. Basically, there's no point in taking a pile of heavy tools if changing a headlight bulb is beyond your limits.

I personally take enough tools to:
Remove plugs, wheels, seat, fuel tank, headlights, luggage & suspension etc.

Adjust chain (if fitted), valve clearances, change oil & filter.

You can reduce your toolkit by replacing the variety of fastener types that come as standard on most bikes with fasteners of one type, allen bolts are my favourite.

A copy of your bikes wiring diagram, preferably in colour, can be a great aid & takes little space. You could get it laminated to protect it.

I have a comprensive list, stored on my PC, of potential items I could take that I look at every time I go away. What I actually take depends on distance & duration of trip, the bike I'm using etc. It is not an exhaustive list by any means, I frequently change it - let me know if you want a copy emailed to you?
