Pannier kit for XT600Z?

Does anyone know of aluminium panniers and steel rack I can get for my XT600Z? It's an 84 model. Does the Touratech kit, p.185 of the catalogue, fit an 84 model (They don't know)? Is there anyone making pannier racks that would take the Touratech panniers - I'm in south London? Can anyone recommend a soft luggage alternative? Thanks.

Hi

I have just set about making a set of panniers and rack for my XT600Z 89. I got a pair of racks, second hand, Heppo Becker ones, but they need some adjusting. I also got a set of mountings from Touratch which at £80 for 2 (I got a set for £8 second hand)are a total rip off. The boxes I got from a local guy who imports them for juts over £70. It will post a pic of the finished product when its done.

Mounting kits scroll down the page

The good thiing with this system is you can use any rack Givi etc and just mount the Toratech mounts to fit the frame. The boxes need a bit of reinforcement on the mountings but the whole kit cost me £130 with second hand bits etc. Better that £230 for a pannier from TT without evern the mountings.

Hello

I think hepco and becker still sell the luggage top part and maybe the side rack fits from the 1VJ model...not sure ask the guys by mail.
http://www.hepco-becker.de/_eng/frameset.php
Or come to France and pic up the "grand raid rack" (no longer made) at a demolition agent, they sometimes have loads of these racks, great stuff, I bought one 40 € for my 3AJ, rust/painted and mounted.
It can hold a 100 kg load with holes to screw paniers and a top to put a big backpack.

Another option is to buy only the panier frames from touratech (30€)and build your own simply attached to original top rack, with legs down to footpegs for good solidity.

Good luck

Matt
