painting suggestions

so i've re-painted the plastic fairing on my '05 dakar, and i want to clear-coet it with something that isn't glossy. something more matte. can you use polyurethane on plastics or will it weaken it?..any suggestions of other clear-coats?

You will find that most spray paints will not adhere to the plastics commonly used on motorcycles.I used Krylon Brand paint for plastics to make my travel bike dull, and less noticable when parked on the street(I used basic black). It is extremely difficult to get good results, but my goal was to disguise my bike, not to make it perfect.Matte black duct tape works as well,if not better than trying to paint the plastics yourself.

i just used a regular cheap matt black acrylic from the local car accessory shop. nothing really sticks to the soft plastic on bikes, so i went for the cheap option and its worked pretty well. if you clean the plastic really well with spirit (do not scuff it up!!) and then spray, the paint will stay on. the only time its come off has been when ive come off the bike and the fairing gets a hard whack, then bits of paint flake off with the impact! but its really easy to just spray back on, especially matt black
