Ortlieb v Wolfman
 

Hi All,

Going to Ireland end of May for 10 day camping trip on my Triumph SpeedMaster (cruiser). I'm looking at either the Ortlieb motocycle side bag x2 (Ortlieb Waterproof Motorcycle Sidebag)
or the Wolfman Expedition Dry Panniers / Saddle Bags. Looking for something that is waterproof and will last a long time. I like the Ortlieb because it looks easier to add and remove from the brackets whereas the Wolfman takes more time (watched video). What is everyone's opinion on the Ortlieb range of Dry bags, the saddlebags or side bag v the Wolfman range.
I was going to use my 60ltr overboard waterproof duffel bag but it is to wide going across the seat and I'd have to buy a rack for the bike to get it on longways and also concerned about stabilty of the duffel bag compared to saddlebags.

I've used both and prefer the Wolfman.

I don't bother with the Velcro straps on the pannier frame rails to retain the bags, I bent some 6mm stainless bar to shape, welded it to the rails and pass the strap buckle through. This keeps the bags in place and allows you to use just one bag safely if that's all you need.

We had the WM EXP bags. Very tough, multiple falls and scuffs and never leaked or broke. The straps got to be a pain when camping every day but can't fault them apart from that.

You might want to review those arrowed-
Looks like a 'rip-the-bag' moment waiting to happen after you've bounced a few miles and your side bags have rubbed on them awhile IMHO

The photos were taken whilst I was still working on the racks.

The protruding threads were cut down and filed a long time ago, they now protrude 1mm past the plastic Nyloc section of the nut and the threads don't protrude past the frames themselves. I've covered several thousand miles so far, no marks on the bags (which also have a protective sheet behind them held on by velcro)
