michelin desert discontinued?

i went to my local bike shop the other day and ordered a pair of michelin desert's for my AT. 10 days later! they rung me and said that these are discontinued, so i asked if michelin has replaced them with anything else. yesterday they rung me and said that michelin have finished with these and aint replaced them with anything else!
anyone else heard of this?
personally i dont believe it as they tried to sell me other stuff they had in stock and sometimes at this shop they can be lazy git's.

after much searching etc i find out the shop M + P swansea were lying to me as the desert's are still out there but they're on back order from michelin since february and apparently michelin are'nt making a new batch until november! lucky enough though after phoning all over britain i found some.
mind you i'm still waiting after 3 weeks for a pair of annakee's from same said bike shop!

When I was trying to buy deserts last November most of the places I rang up could get the front 21" but the rear was out of stock. One dealer I rang (I think it was watling tyres) said they had 70+ rears in stock but that they were all reserved for the Dakar. I wonder what happened to those after the race was cancelled?

What's the difference between a desert and a T63? The tread design is identical.

Deserts are still out there, but a year or two back, i heard michelin were also producing a different rally raid tyre cant remember the name ?

The Deserts are a much tougher tyre. Stonger side walls designed for low pressures.

Just found out it may have been a Baja, but i think they are designed for bikes upto 650cc.:scooter:

For sand with only short stretches of asphalt (or for lightly laden bikes) the Metzeler MCE Karoo is an excellent alternative. They wear fast on tarmac though. And for less extreme offroad with awesome on-road life there is the ever-reliable TKC80 Twinduro. For hamada and graded dirt you shouldn't need anything more extreme....

Michelin Deserts are sold by David Lambeth. As he supports rally raids, he usually has a stock of Deserts. He's on bigbluecoach@hotmail.com

Speaking to THE man on the Michelin stand at the offroad show at Stonleigh today he assured me Deserts are still available......
