Larger windshield - how to make one:
In preparing my Kawasaki ZR7-S for a trip into Mexico I would like to enlarge the windshield, particularly in width. I already have an after market touring shield from Zero Gravity which increases wind protection somewhat. There appears to be nothing commercially available beyond that.
Is it economically feasible to have a wider and slightly higher shield custom fabricated? I haven't come across anyone offering such a service. Alternatively, I note that Laminar Lip offers "ears" which are add on side extensions. These are said to be universal but are intended for relatively flat cruiser type windshields. Any experiences, wisdom or creative ideas received with thanks. Norm |

I'm not sure as of who offer these types of services, though there are some things of which you should be aware.
Make sure that the windshield is short enough for you to see over. Not only can they fog up, but they can also get dirty, making it difficult to see. In some countries there are laws prohibiting tall windshields all together, such as Germanny

Hi,
I'm not sure if this is a possibilty to you as I'm not sure what your bike looks like so it may not be practical. I made my own windsheild for my XT. I went to a plastics wholesaler and bought a piece of 4mm Lexan polycarbonate, cut it to shape with a hacksaw, filed and sanded the edges smooth. I then used a heatgun and some peices of wood g-clamped to the plastic to keep it in shape, heated a line in the plastic and bent it into a slight v to give it stiffness and stop it flapping in the wind. I then bolted it to the plastic headlamp cover of the bike. It only cost £10 for the plastic so was a small risk to take. It works well. Have a look in the "Honda" area. Look for a post entitled: "XR 650 L headlight shell/cover ????"

Have you tried http://members.aol.com/lgusta2587/ fairing screen gustafson. They make lots of different stuff for wind protection. Otherwise a big tank bag and tuck in a lot. I have seen some fairly ugly lash ups using clamp on fairings stuck above the frame mount one the bike comes with. But after a few thousand km/miles ugly isn't so bad.
