How about these boxes?

Here is a box that I'm pondering about, the 12x12x24 box works out to 57 litres. The manufacturer claims its walls are 0.055" (I think this works out to 1.4 mm????) thick which Grant says is too thin, this is the only thing stopping me from buying. At 100 bucks a box it's much less money than the Jesse luggage, how about the Zega stuff?

Could somebody please elaborate on the thickness issue with respect to road roughness and load? I would be putting about 40 pounds in each box (current packed weight is only 55 not including my tent but I'm sure I'll find stuff along my trip I'll want to buy) I'll also be riding on a street bike (GS1100) so most roads will be paved but when I get onto the dirt roads (down into Copper Canyon, etc) the nature of the bike means my luggage is going to get hammered. Since I have no intent on lugging my boxes around off of the bike I am envisioning an L bracket mount which holds the boxes from the inner sides and bottom. This would be enough right?

I would also have a 3rd one up on the back of my bike to hold my tent and some clothes. Now, this is because I don't want to pack tightly, not because I want 160 litres of storage. It would also give me a place to put my helmet and bulky riding gear when off of the bike so there'd only be 20 pounds in the top box while riding.

The one below shows how they can be somewhat sealed but I would sew up some rubberized canvas pull-overs for the tops just in case. This is actually an underside box which takes the same kind of abuse a pair of paniers would.

Hello. Once again just my 2 cents here. To me this doesn't look like such a great deal. First off, if you include price of shipping, GST (yes, they will ding you at the boarder, rotten scoundrells...) and exchange rate, you will most likely find a better deal here in Canada, just check out your local off-roading shops. These boxes look like the ones a buddy put in the back of his truck, very thin and light, but probably won't close after taking a good hit! Grant also has thin boxes( 2 mil, i think??) but his are completely supported from underneath like a basket, which is what you would have to do. Another thing to consider is how wide your bike would be after installing these boxes. In my research i've found most boxes average between 7" to 10" wide. I read somewhere that Germany has a width restriction of 1 metre (3'4") In the planning stage of the frame and boxes i'm building, i've decided to go no wider that the handel-bars on my GS100PD, taking a lesson from the cat who will never enter an opening narower than the width of it's wiskers. If the handelbars fit, you can guarentee the rest of the bike will.
Good luck!

I was out yesterday and I found the same type boxes in Ottawa branded Delta at WalMart and Princess Auto. They look nice on the outside but on the inside they are all burned up with welding marks and they have HUGE protrusions of aluminum jutting out of the corners. They aren't good quality at all (leaky welds) but if I can find a dealer who carries the whole line here I may buy one for a top box since they are quite light but I've never seen the ones you guys use. I don't think that they would squash in an accident and even if they did the closing pin is spring mounted so they would still open and close properly anyway.
