Hard seats-cure

Years ago I had a bike(remaining nameless) with a hard seat .I turned the foam upside-down and using a diy hole-cutter(the sort designed for hard board)I cut 6 3/4" holes & pulled out the cylinders of foam.The seat was too squidgy so I just refilled 2 holes & glued them in . Perfik.

I've just bought an Africa Twin with the infamous hard seat.When I bounced on the seat,all that happened was that the suspension compressed.Ugh.
Using the original method I cut 9 holes , 3 rows of one inch holes ~ O O O

O O O
These holes are under the very thick part of the riders seat,with a gap between each hole of one and a half inches . The holes are two inches deep , leaving plenty of foam above . Outcome is a far more comfortable seat , but I can glue back some of the little rods of foam if necessary .

Neat idea - I did a similar if less neat bodge in the other direction (too soft Tenere seat) by cutting out a block and sticking in a firmer block of foam.
Rough bike seats are a much under-rated limitation on some travel biies, IMHO
