offroading

What is more important when offroading Tyres Suspension or something else?

Amen to that !

IMHO tyres come first .If you can't get the grip to the ground ,you're buggered before you start .
You should always choose tyres that are suitable for the terrain .
Then start working on the suspension.
Save the ''something else'' for when you get home !

Practice, then tyres, then anything else. The tyres of course make getting the practice in less painful.

Tyres put the power down, suspension keeps the tyres in contact with the ground and you on the bike(maybe), you control the power, weight distribution and direction(maybe). Practice is the only way to learn, and you'll build muscles and stamina whilst doing it, and work out how to make the bike work better/comfier (and build up a tolerance to pain and suffering).

Offroading in terms of 'travelling' then tyres are the main factor. Suitable tyres for the terrain will allow to get where you want to go. Suspension, weight, ergonomics, geometry, gearing and rider skill are all factors that allow you to go where you want faster or more easily.

Having said that, sticking motocross tyres on a sportsbike isn't going to make it into an offroader.

skill, clutch control. circumspection. tyre pressures are also v. important. footpegs and boots with grip, 'cause hopefully you'll be standing up a fair bit.

Tyres, suspension & practice, not necessarily in that order.

I led a group of 4 around South Oxfordshire, Berkshire & Wiltshire today on a 140 mile loop, offroad wherever possible, all legal byways. Practice is crucial, it builds confidence, without it you won't enjoy riding offroad, you'll always be fearful which leads to you gripping the 'bars too tight etc which leads to mistakes & injury. Once you're confident with the bike moving about beneath you, you'll start to enjoy it.

Anyone wanting to learn about offroading or trailriding needs to join the TRF for a multitude of reasons

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
