Cast Alloy vs Spokes - Off-Road

I am about to by a new GS and have the option of getting the Cast Alloy wheels. I've been told that they may not be as good in the off-road. Can anyone verify or contradict this opinion? I will be spending a lot of time in foreign countries and off-road!

Thanks!

I remember when some of the street BMW's were having problems with dents in their cast wheels. My R100R came with the tubeless spoked wheels and I love them.

On off road prefer the spokes over alloys any time.

I've now done 30,000 miles (50,000k) on my R1200GS with most of that distance don in South America. I have cast wheels and managed the Car. Austral, highway 40, some horrendous roads in Bolivia including the alleged highest road in SA where I helped pull a local truck out of the mud (talk about torque). Down some amazing hydro board canyon roads in Peru and some dynamic bike pothole interfaces in CA. So far so good but then again I'm crap of road, ask Grant and Mr Ron. Ride safe, Mike

Thanks guys. This is really helpful. I bought spoked!

Hello Mike! Glad to hear you fared well in SA! I'm sure your off-road skills improved immensley!
