alternatives to chain lube
In south america, having some trouble finding proper moto chain spray. Anybody got good experience of an alternative that might be more widely available.
thanks ------------------ Richb http://www.postmaster.co.uk/~richardbeaumont/60684/ |

80/90, or 80 or 90 grade (car) gearbox oil... apply with a syringe (available at any pharmacy). makes a mess of the back tyre and isn't ecologically aware, but ...
probably useful to clean the chain with wd40 occasionally too. enjoy ChrisB

Try chainsaw bar/chain oil. Its 'anti-fling' and designed to work under extream temperatures. If your using a Scotoiler just fill 'er up! Used it for years with no problem. Wherever there are trees you'll find it. Its kind to the environment too. Ain't that nice!

I'll second the suggestion of the Chainsaw lube. Probably the best stuff stuff for your chain! It will still fling off, but not as easily as 90W gear lube and I think it lubes much better than those gummy chain sprays you find in the bike shop. I clean my chain once in a while with WD-40 or Kerosene as well.
If you can't find any, just use 90W gear lube and if you can't find that, just use whatever motor oil you can find! It works fine as well, you'll just have to apply it more often as it flings off easier. ------------------ Improvement makes strait roads, but the crooked roads without Improvement, are roads of Genius - William Blake
