Just thought I would bring to everyone attention a very cheap alternative to soft luggage. As an ex British Soldier I hit upon the Idea of using Army Issue Rocket pouches as panniers. They are very adaptable having the option of being zipped together. Also utility straps can be attached to the bags with the fitted clip system. They each hold about 13 litres, one will hold my 2 man tent complete. They can be bought of ebay for as little as £20 a pair. But ensure that they come with the correct straps and yoke. Utility straps can be bought separately for around £5 per pair. Waterproof bags are required. I hope this helps you guys and girls out there who are on a budget.

nice idea! I recently bought a pair of NATO issue field packs that with a little re-stitching of the straps I have attached to my engine crash bars, great for stashing my water proofs etc & only £6.50 each....bargain!

Military gear
It's sometimes the best stuff. You know it's been designed to be rugged and adaptable.

grate idea... and way cheaper than the smallish Wolfman saddle bags..
![]() was thinking to use one of this packs with the yoke as daypack anyway.. ![]() additional... yeah they match my main Karrimore SF rucksack, which I'm using as main storage on top of the rack... well I would use the black or plain green version instead of the MoD pattern, just as the luxury tart-up, still cheaper than anything else on the market... thanks for pointing out your solution and sharing it here

Camouflage isn't ideal, but the old plain green style are really hard to come by nowadays. I can imagine that travellers who are passing through conflict areas would want to detach themselves form anything military as a precaution.
