xXx Alloy Panniers

Anyone used these? I think Karim Hussein used them..

Are they a realistic alternative to the Touratechs/Tesch/Darr/Custom boxes?

Need advice ASAP...
Thank you!

Still ne advice?

... I have to decide soon, as they are currently available for a *VERY* good price!

Sorry - I haven't tried them out, but if you know about the advantages and disadvantages of the others - have a look at them!!!

If the price is reasonable and you seem fine with them - GO FOR IT!

If they have disadvantages the others haven't you will surely find it out not earlier, than the problems pop up!
I mean things you take for granted from the other companies, because it's just the way they make their cases and don't mention it (so noone knows anyhow)!

If they are waterproof, lockable (itself and to the carrier), tough (to change a tire for example or because you want to get a seat...) and have special features like taking of the lid completely (to make it a table or a cutting-plate or something), taking of the boxes without unpacking and so on...

THAT would be MY important notes!!!

Other thoughts:
Thickness of the material...
Quality of the welded parts...
Sealing of the lid and locks and so on...
Weight of the boxes...
Size and fitting to the bike...
Extra little containers for tools...
Different sizes, if you have the exhaust-problem...
CAN YOU PUT THEM with a reasonble amount of work ON ANOTHER CARRIER THAN THE ONE YOU HAVE NOW???

Hope you make the right choice - Mel...

** ALSO IN XT600 FORUM **

Right, I now have all the boxes and the hoops for my 3AJ, to begin the assembly of my luggage system. I went for the xXx boxes and the Zega topcase, with the Touratech hoops. It can all be seen on the following images:

www.geog.ucl.ac.uk/~lmiller/topcase.jpg
www.geog.ucl.ac.uk/~lmiller/sidecase.jpg
www.geog.ucl.ac.uk/~lmiller/sidecase2.jpg

You can see that the side cases are reinforced at the top and the bottom edges (just like the Tesch boxes?) and have seals inside. The lids pivot on the NARROW side and have the same locks as the Zega- Top. The lids are also fully removable without tools...

I am really happy with the quality of the equipment, and I have more than enough space! Unfortunately Ernie is booked up until March or later, so I may have to wait a while before the racks are finished!

What do you think?

Cheers!

Still no opinions? (they look very much like the Darr boxes to me...)

The files are now workin!

Who sells these paniers on the web? Their choice in names has made them impossible to locate...they should consider a better one. How much did they cost?

The side cases cost me 150GBP for the pair from Moto Ward in the UK.

http://www.motoward.co.uk/

I don't know if they can get another pair - these were excess stock. I have only ever seen them mentioned on one other site, and even then there was no real description...

It was such a good deal that I only shopped around a little (enough to discover that the Tesch and Zega cases were *much* more, and that Jesse, while being really nice, is a different world of cost!)

They came with no fittings, except for the latches and hinges. I bought the topcase from Touratech UK - I believe they have a US online shop. But Touratech stuff is notoriously expensive - 150GBP for the topcase.

Hope this helps.

I rang Motoward who confirmed these were on special as they were the last they had. They didn't think they could get any more. They were made by a German firm, Gotz whose trademark is Triple X. They normally retailed at GBP200 a pair. I've tried the web unsuccessfully for an address. Any ideas from our German friends?
Tim
