Daily Telegraph Adventure Tavel Show - the video

Last weekend Patrick, Stace and I headed down to the Adventure Travel Show at the London Business Centre - we talked to quite a lot of people about useful kit and companies that exist purely to help you get things organised......

Here's the video we made.... let me know what you think.

Out at the Daily Telegraph Adventure Show » Journey To Russia

(I should point out we're all amateurs and this is our first attempt at an OB... also... I need to put some tidy clothes on!)

Another good film, Matt
I'm staying in Islington at the moment and went past the LBC a couple of times. I saw the big 4X4 truck outside but didn't go into the exhibition. Thanks to your film, I have an idea of what was inside.

Hope your trip to Russia goes well. Don't slack on the 'vodka training'.

Thanks Stephen - that's really nice - I'm trying to make more and more of these - my background is radio so TV is quite hard work to learn all the ropes - but I think Stace and Patrick did a great job on the camera and sound - not bad for a first attempt - the next one planned is a visit to the local tent shop with a guide to what things to look out for when purchasing your shelter.

lol! Know exactly what you mean

It was a good show, but not really aimed at us, more the backpackers who are looking for somebody to take care of everything from trains to visas and then how best to keep your toilet paper dry (ortlib bag fyi).

Hope the video showed what was going on though!

We looked at them yesterday on the Traveldri Plus stand at the bike show... Stace fancies them but I just don't see the point! I mean... how hard is it too keep toilet paper dry?!

Oh well - it'll be him laughing when I'm trying to wipe my butt with wet paper....

What else could you use instead? Leaves?

Leaves, newspaper, War & Peace, the Bible, grass, sponge on a stick (à la Romans) water pistol (don't ask), a river, wet wipes (good those) and so on and so on.

That should give a few ideas for your next gear test

ewwww! That is NOT getting comitted to video I can tell you that now!

Next one is going to be our staple food on the road, how to cook it etc, very basic stuff that most people will watch and go DUH!!! But then in March we've got a tent special planned - we're filming at the local camping shop looking at the budget end then heading down to Dartmoor to film Les with Traveldri Plus and his expedition tents.

Try wet leaves, dry ones tend to crack and make a nasty mess of youre crack. Believe me i tried it and wouldnt recomend it. I was desperate in Kakadu (apt place) and paddled up the bank to do my business hafl way through I spot the cation sign crocodile nessting area do not enter. So i grabbed a handful of dry leaves and left. Ouch my arse is feeling numb at the thought of it. Im a fan of wet wipes great for lots of stuff but again dont mix them up with the hand cleaner garage wipes with the grit in !

Great informative vid by the way

ouch! Just the thought of the grit in the wipes is making my eyes water! Well this thread has definitely taken a turn up the Kakadu!

Thanks for the nice words about the vid btw :-)

I loved the bit when you tried the "wodka" You've got no chance of drinking that girl under the table, she looks like she's an expert!
Like she said, you need to get your practice in.

The full clip is on our facebook group... dear God that Vodka was strong - I don't like it at the best of times, but that stuff was like paint stripper.... definitely going to have to get the practice in - we've invited Anna out for dinner as a native Moscow girl we hope she'll be able to give us some very useful info!

Is there a polite way to say no?!

oh... yeah... the out-take....
