Water filter

The 'Survivor' Backpackinglight looks like an up-rated bike bottle and weighs only 180grms. There are other systems available from the same makers Drinksafe-systems at what seems very reasonable prices. Apparently, these are 'professional' systems used by military, the UN and other organisations across the world.

I plan to use mine during wild camping, or from any suspect water supply I come across, including the odd hotel stay. It ought to pay for itself pretty quickly. The water is as sweet as any I've tasted - I thought better than my filter jug at home. I also like the fact that the one I have doesn't look special - just a drinking bottle. Could be stuffed in a pocket or a bag mesh if I go walkabouts. Very quick and easy - a kid could use it.

Hope this is useful. Cheers.

UV is a form of radiation between visible light and x-rays that is often used on drinking water as it denatures both bacteria and viruses.

The filtratiuon system mentioned was discussed on the BBC a while back. Sounded very effective at bacterial filtrsation and even that of the far smaller viral level.
