A "Folding" Bicycle?

I recently bought a "Xootr Swift" folding 16 speed road bike. which i have mounted between two layers of closed cell foam behing my back against the top box, to take along on my soon 4-5 year RTW ride. Being a devoted cyclist at heart i love to have a bicycle along to ride after a day on the moto, to the store, or for a bit of exercise, and this bike is perfect. It folds tiny, has 20inch wheels, but the same geometry as a regular road bike, and its only 21 pounds. It folds into about 10 inces thick, by 32 inches wide and 24 inches high. thats by removing only the front wheel, handlebars/stem, and seat post. All in uner a minute with practise. Now all i need to do is hurry up and GO!

I have used for many years a "Bike Friday - New World Tourist" which is a custom 20" wheel 21 speed folding bicycle. I own two, 1994 & 2005 models. They also fit in a standard Samsonite suitcase for airline travel, the suitcase converts to a pull behind trailer. I've taken them via plane & rail on several trips. My bike mounts up fine on my motorbikes either on my rear rack or lashed to my topbox.

I use the below setup, just to carry my bike to local rides, but I don't think I'd want to take it RTW.

That Swift Folder is a beautiful bike. I've had my eye on one for a while. A very clean design. A bit pricey, but probably worth it. I've thought about getting one, but I've heard that they do not fold up as small as some Dahons of Bike Fridays. But the design is just sleek.

Show us some pics when you get a chance.

folding bokes

I have a bike Friday New World Tourist also, along with a Dahon. Looking forward to see if I can mount one of them on my Vstrom. It would be great at the end of a day to take a little cruise, just to unwind and stretch the legs .

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
