Touratech Engine Bars

Fitted Touratech engine bars to my Africa Twin last year thinking that these were pretty indestructable. I noticed recently the appearance of a rusty crack on the flat part close to the weld of each bar where it mounts to the engine. Worse still on investigation, each bar has actually broken!

Anybody else suffer this unthinkable nightmare? This seems to suggest poor build quality and I wonder how Touratech view such complaints.

Thanks for any help and advice.

I had Touratech bars on my old @ and when I got the new one last year looked in their catalogue with the intention of buying the same ones. I noticed that they had changed the design and probably their supplier. The new ones seem to run horizontally where the old design were angled up towards the rear and followed the lines of the bike and therefore seemed to offer more protection. I checked on the 'africanqueens' website www.africaqueens.de and they looked the same as the previous Touratech model. I bought some and as far a I can tell they are exactly the same. Which type do have? My old ones had no rust after riding the bike through a couple of winters.

I had a set of Hepco and Becker crash bars on an F650. A crack appeared in the same position, and they actually broke while i was doing 80mph down a motorway. The rattling sound it made was rather alarming.
