Summer gloves with knuckle protection?
Hi all,

I am looking new summer gloves (prefer leather, which do not have any goretex etc liner) with good knuckle protection. Really important thing is that they should not loose colour!

I have been using now one year Alpinestars gloves, which have lasted much better compared to BMW summer gloves, but only extremely annoying issue is that they loose a ton of colour.
Every time I ride in rain, my hands are totally black!

I contacted Alpinestars (Italy) and complained how much they are loosing colour. Their answer was that I should use gloves with goretex-liner when it rains... :confused1::thumb down:

Wouldn't expect that with Alpinestars (given the price) I'm very happy with my Richa and Held gloves. Neither seem to leak dye.

Exactly! I just cannot understand where all this dye is coming from. For me, there is something wrong with these gloves.
Otherwise these gloves are really strong and good. One year of hard usage and still holding really well.

I would recommend anything made by held... My new fav glove brand. Find a website selling them then search for reviews on YouTube...

They can survive heavy usage well?
For example BMW gloves wore out from palm area in 6 months! Compared to this these Alpinestars have been really strong (only problem is that I should not wear them when it rains...)

BMW gloves are overpriced poop.... Held are really good. Mine are wearing fantastically...

If you can stand the price these are really good:

Held Touring Star Glove - Black - FREE UK DELIVERY

saves having to carry a pair of waterproof, and a pair of "normal" gloves. They also do a vented version with a goretex second chamber as well.

Held Score II Gore-Tex Glove - Black - FREE UK DELIVERY

I really can't recommend them enough. No gimmicks... Just a well made glove with a ceramic wrist liner, armoured hard knuckles and Gortex lined for 100% waterproofing.

They are good from Spring-Autumn. If you're hardcore you could wear them all winter with heated grips.

They aren't a pure Summer glove though. I think they would be too hot for prolonged riding at 30c. For a 3 season all-rounder though, they're fab...

Price might make you gulp but you get what you pay for with Held stuff. Germans got it right...

Agree.

I've got a pair of Road Champs- perfect for hot days on a GS- like a motocross glove with kangaroo on the palm. Made in the same factory as the race gloves apparently. A lot of the time tooling round here in the Highlands I wear their Warm n' Dry Goretex mid weight gloves. Thin palms designed to work better with heated grips- genius. I love 'em.

Last gloves I had that leaked dye like those Alpinestars were crappy Fieldsheers.

I will have a look at those Held gloves.
I have Rukka goretex gloves which I am using when it is cold and raining. I am especially looking for well vented summer gloves.

I've been using Rev'IT Striker the last two years, before that I used a model which is now out of production.

They work, but I do get black hands ... but then again I like to have fresh air around my fingers.

I use Richa and have never had any colour leakage & my winter gloves are still totally waterproof after 3 years.
My summer / trail bike gloves are an old version of their Magma

My winter gloves are these:
Waterproof Racing › Gloves › Products › Richa Moto Fashion
They're not overly warm, I wear silk liners & use heated grips. If it's really cold, I add handlebar muffs.

Good to hear that there really are gloves which do not colour hands after riding in the rain
I have had 2 Alpinestars summer gloves (one trail type and one street type) and both of them had the same problem. So, I think this is not a quality issue, it is just a way how Alpinestars gloves are... Shame, because those gloves fit my hand really well

The Held gloves look best to me (not the expensive Rukka one)

I bought a $48 pair of Olympia gloves a couple years ago. They are OK but not for cold weather. If you can locate a good BMW, Triumph or Ducati dealer you may find a shop with a decent stock of gloves on hand that you can try on.

Otherwise, you are shopping blind. I found my Olympia gloves while on the road in Idaho at a BMW/Triumph dealer. My old gloves were worn out so I bought these.

I am looking for breathable summer glove (no goretex), so held and Dirt2 from this review looks the best for me.
I am just wondering if they let me to dip these gloves to a water bucket to see if it looses any colour
