Hi,

Just come back from a 14 day europeon trip and my friends had a solar charger from Maplins.... It didnt perform very well, needless to say they had to borrow my phone !!

I use a cheap waterproof ciggy lighter installed on the inside of my screen, I take turns to charge my phone or I-river mp3 player. In my opinion that is the best method for charging electrics

cheers
Will

Solar chargers

Hi.
A mate has the one you mentioned and it seems to work ok.
I use the "freeloader" which is a fair bit cheaper and a bit smaller and seems to work ok too!
You can find them for less than £20 on ebay.
Cheers. Dave.

We bought a solio last year and so have used it on two trips so far. It's great :thumbup1: Fabby little thing which packs up really small. We bought a small pencil case to keep the solio and cables in which works well. I'd definately recommend the Solio... it will charge anything!

If your coming to the Edinburgh meet this week let me know and I'l try to remember to bring it with me if you want a look at one out of a box!

Have fun!:mchappy:

I use a waterproof, marine-style, cigar lighter socket too. Before I fitted it, I used to use emergency mobile phone chargers as seen in all the £1 shops. They work surprising well though you'll need a supply of batteries.

Could you not use a bicycle dynamo lighting circuit to power a socket, maybe just to supply a feed to a battery charger in case of damage to your phone. My dad used to use a dynamo on a bicycle years ago but I'm not sure if you can still buy them.

Saw one of the Freeloader chargers when we were last on a trip. The lad just put it in the map pocket of his tankbag. Seemed a really good idea until I read the reviews of them when I got home.
