rev it turbine and alpinestar scout crash test

I know it's ATGATT but for me it was AATGAT (almost all the gear all the time). I'm in the process of outfitting myself for a montreal to TDF trip startng next october so I was still short of a good pair of pants. I sure wish I had the BMW summer pants I've been eyeing for some time now.

I had a crash 2 hours ago. I crashed in the left rear bumper of a car while accelerating to pass the car. The thing is that while i was looking in my dead angle the car in my lane decided to put the brake. I know I was too close to make a fast move like this and I feel I've been reckless. Nonetheless I'm ok (not the bike) and can now review some of the fantastic equipment I had on.

I had the turbine jacket from rev'it and I can say that my upper body is totally without harm and the coat doesn't even have a scratch on it. I'm very impressed by the quality of that jacket. It is as advertised : bombproof.

The alpinestar scout have also protected my feets very well. I have a deep cut in my leg just over the end of the boots so I think the boots have protected the rest of the leg and if I had the BMW summer pants I would be without any scratch. Everywhere I'm bruised on the legs is where the BMW pants are padded i.e : the knees, the shin and the hips.

So that being said I think it's fair to say that all the gear all the time is really ALL the gear all the time. Motorcycle protection equipment is well made to protect you, use it.

Oh and I also think it's fair to say that accelerating while looking in your dead angle is not a good idea.

for those who wonder about the bike it's a 2008 KLR with less then 2k.

Now the left fairing, left blinker, and left side of crash bar are destroyed. I had the givi crash bar and that's bend totally on the other side, it broke near the bash plate in clear cut, must be on the welding point cuz it's really like a cut.

It was a relatively high speed crash as I was in fourth and just opened the throttle so maybe 60 to 70 km/h.

I'm afraid the frame of the bike has been compromised since the crash bar is solidly bolted to the frame and that crash bar is totally destroyed. Gonna make sure the guys at the dealer measure the frame to make sure it's still good. Doesn't like the idea of embarking in my great adventure with a problem bike. doh
