Nolan N102 with N-Com?

Hi

We have purchased 2 of these helmets, and I can say they are brilliant :)
However I want to use the NCOM system that you can get for them, we would like to have Bike to Bike comms, but everything on their website says rider to pillion etc, and nothing about B2B?

Has anyone used the N-Com system for Bike to Bike comms?

Cheers Scott

I have the N102Es too and was just chating with the dealer, and he sayed the wired intercom work fine but the wireless BlueTooth intercom just doesn't pair each other no matter how he tried. He sent the BT system back to Nolan with the complaints.

So check it first if going to the BT system. I was especially interested in wireless BT intercom since i only have bad experiences with the wired intercoms, but looks like the BT isn't much developed system yet tho...

i guess you could use the bluetooth headsets and connect via mobile phones but thats a bit clumsy, (and talktime and battery expensive!!)

ive only had a quick look at the nolan system in a shop, but im sure i remember the guy telling me there was a headphone input socket to connect a GPS or intercom system?

if there is then you can connect with something like a starcom unit

What I need is some advice
Ok here is a picture (attached) from the basic kit instuction manual

So here is what I think I will need??

A 2.5mmm cable from the mic to a PTT (push to talk) button mounted on the handlebar, and then this plugs into my Radio (like a Uniden PRS)

also

A 3.5 mm cable from the speaker output on the above radio into the 3.5mm socket on my helmet
Does this make sense?

Do any of you radio experts think this is ok or possible?

Cheers Scott

Hey Kiwirider. I have also looked into these Nolan systems fairly extensively. Are you aware that its only available in a mono sound set-up? No lovely stereo tunes:(

I have been looking into these too, as we haven't had very much success with other intercoms.
I can't find the website I was looking at the other day with all the info.
but basically
you buy the helmets with no accessories.
the first thing you need is are headsets, which do have the advantage of being designed for the helmet and the helmet being designed to take it.
If you are going to just use wired comms you buy an attachment for the rider and the pillion plugs into it with their own headset.
If you want to use bluetooth you need a bluetooth box for each helmet and they should work up to about 30 feet apart or you can use your mobile phones.
It looks as though you can also use the headset with a normal radio unit and if you can get vox to work satisfactory you don't need a ptt button.
You can also plug in your mp3 player or satnav.
I'm not sure but I got the impression that although the bluetooth is only mono, anything through a wired mp3 player would be in stereo.
So I was wondering if 30feet was enough for most of the time you want to talk with using the phone as a back up if you get too far apart or split up.
I'd like to hear from someone who has one and uses it successfully.

Well we are in the building stage of what I pictured above.
We will use the basic system and adapt a cable from the helmet to the PRS Radios, we want a PTT (push to talk) button mounted on the handlebars so my wife doesnt have to listen to my singing ( or worse swearing ) :)

I will keep you posted

Cheers

Hi

I built a headset for my nolan. The logitech ichat headsets are a good start, if you break the ears and mic off and velcro it into the helmet. I can listen to music on my mobile and so can the pillon. I use the little 8 channel radio on vox so i can talk to pillon or we can talk to other riders. we can also listen to music and talk too.

Hope this can give you so ideas :thumbup1:
