Mosquito Net – Double-bed size
We're heading west through SE Asia in six weeks' time, starting from Timor then island-hopping across Indonesia.

We anticipate spending most nights in budget to mid-range type hotel accommodation, and we're now thinking that we should take some sort of lightweight mosquito net to hang over the hotels' beds.

[Incidentally, the little blighters seem to especially love me for some reason! .. :confused1: ..]

We've never used a mozzie net before, so don't know what style to purchase; or what's the best type of hanging kit, etc.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Yes you will need a net, we came through the same way as plan to and have used it many times, we have the Equip double net is pretty big and is treated with permethrin.

Also bring tape as sometimes you cannot screw the hook into the ceiling so you need to tape the string up, also while you are in Oz get some bushmans insect repellent, the best stuff to keep the evil sods at bay.

No knowledge about Indonedia, but 50 cents about nets: use your clothes' line to hang the net when no place to screw or the ceiling is too high to tape. We have a Sea to Summit. It looks way to expensive just for a rope, but it is so well conceived that it is worth every penny, really (and so tiny!). Always a great way to dry clothers -or to hang the net.

Because of this, we got two Sea to Summit single mosquito nets. Take reasonably little space -ca. as a single cotton, not silk, travel liner- although I would like a tighter bag to make it more compact. The net is a little too small IMO, but ok, although if you are tall you can touch the net while sleeping. Black colour allows you to see much better through than white.

I think an option might be one double net and one single net, for the times you have two separated -fixed- beds. Look for prices, some terrible differences from one place to another

PS: Get silk linens against bed bugs as well, but be sure they don't fall short to cover the pillow.

Useful stuff. I am also in the market for a mosquito net for malaria areas. From what I've read it makes a lot more sense to make an effort to avoid getting bit in the first place rather than relying on drugs once you have been infected.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
