Metzeler 330/550 vs. Bridgestone BT45

I'm about to get me some new tires. My main goal is longevity. My choices at this time is Metzeler 330/550 vs. Bridgestone BT45.

Can anybody comment? I'm interested in reports from people who have personal experience with both - preferably on the same bike.

A year gone by, and I have the answer.

The ME330/550 combo has served me for 12K km. So the longevity is OK.

The BT45 have lasted me 12K, too. But after that, the BT45 front tyre was thoroughly worn out on its flanks, while the BT330 still has some 40% left.

Does that speak in favor of the ME330? I think not, because both the BT45 and the ME550 rear tyres are done after 12K. I need to change front and rear anyway.

However, while the grip of the BT45 has always been flawless, the ME330/550 gave me four panic moments within the last year, and I had to kiss the asphalt once.

I interpret the BT45 front tyre's increased wear as a sure sign of its better grip. Consequently, I will return to BT45.

Thank you very very much for sharing your experience about those two tires ghorian. I will change my tyres as well and I was thinking which I should buy. I think I am gonna stick a new pair of BT45 again which are already on my bike.

Thanks

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
