Better than a HELICOIL

If like me, you own a Yam XT, then you will know that the treads on them are just weak... or the owners are built strong!

Either way, if you want a better systen than a Helicoil, check this out...
also useable for stripped head studa on Yamaha, BMW Boxers etc..

Looks a good idea. Unfortunately, that kit has mostly imperial inserts with no metric fine inserts at all. Still might be worth looking at if they can put together a bike specific kit.

In the UK, I use Arndale Engineering in South Tyneside for anything like this.
Welcome to the Arndale Web site

Anything they can't get for me, I use Demon Tweeks (expensive) if I can't get it locally and don't have time to shop around.

It all depends on the skill of the Operator! If you have the experience, the right tools, and the know how ( not just HOW to Helicoil, but where you can and can't successfully helicoil) then yeah, why not?

I have used both Helicoil and key inserts. Both can be used to change the bolt size you use. Both need to be drilled and taped using tapes for the insert not the bolt size to be used. I use helicoils when I can there easy to remove and fix the key insert is pain to re drill out in soft aluminum a EDM may need to be used. But if the hole needs to be moved a little and you cant drill and tap any place else the key insert will do that the key insert is also far far tuffer.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
