IMO cockpit computers

*This topic is also in the XT600 forum*

---------------------------------------

I have been offered an IMO rallye computer for a very good price (around 100GBP!) they sell for £270-ish, normally.

It's like this:
http://www.touratech.co.uk/shop/media/011-0001.jpg

I like the idea, but there are a couple of issues. Fitting apparently takes about 4-5 hours, depending on how neat you try and make it.

I will be *completely* replacing the dash on my bike, and I'm hoping the smaller area used by the IMO will allow my GPS to also be under the screen.

Has anyone used one?
Will I be able to fit it OK?
Are they reliable?
Will it increase the resale value of my bike?
Are they worth it / is it overkill?

I'd REALLY appreciate any advice! ???

I replaced my F650GS cockpit by an IMO 100 this spring. It took me more than a day to fit, mainly because I couldn't find a replacement plug for the original cockpit plug.
Once installed correctly, it's been working
fine ever since. Only, from time to time I get
a strange speed spike (like 200km/h), that
lasts a second or so. It doesn't seem to
influence the unit, nor the calculations.
I haven't figured out why this occurs. It is rare though.
It's been quite useful in giving me the day's statistics, such as fuel consumption, average speed and such. It seems to be well built and rugged, and have still to find out how long it'll last until it breaks.
You should have some electrical knowledge before you attempt to install this unit. Though there are instructions, in places it is rather vague and assumes enough knowledge about electronics.
When I installed the IMO, I also replaced the control lights, and this where I had most installation trouble. Installing the IMO only should be easy, as there are two wires for power (+ and ground), a connector for the wheel sensor (supplied), a wire for the RPM signal (you need to be careful here, or you can fry the unit. the instructions tell you what to do) and a connector for the remote control (supplied). Mine also had a connection for an oil temperature sensor.

I might be a bit late ...and Your link didn't work but

I have the IMO 300. It's a great toy. Lots of things to look at and some information you don't really need but the

1 voltage and temp are really useful as is the destination / time page. It's much more accurate than using a gps.

I use it to see if I'm going to make it to my planned place before dark - especially usefull when the road gets very twisty and the average speed drops alot.

2 it's also a good ice breaker for people when surrounded by locals as there's nothing clearly no speedo when the engine's off.

Definitely recommended.
