Human LED headlamps

I've been searching lately for a nice, economic LED headlamp, headlight, flashlight for camp. On the HUBB a headlamp search usually brings up bike lights so I'm trying to create this topic for future readers.

Personally I search for a nice, compact, comfortable headlamp with a beam and flood setting, decent lumen rating, battery life and...I do enjoy having a red light as I enjoy stalking the animals and the easy on the eyes.

So far a few nice models under $70 I've found include:

Fenix HP10 - 225 Lumens Cree Headlamp ($65)
- no red light
Fenix HP10 - 225 Lumens Cree Headlamp | eBay

Coast Cree LED Lenser - 170 Lumens ($42)
- no red light
Coast CREE LED LENSER Outdoor Head lamp H7 7497 Torch FLASHLIGHT HEADLIGHT | eBay

Black Diamond SPOT Headlamp - 90 Lumens ($35)
- red light
NEW 2012 Black Diamond SPOT Headlamp 90 Lumens LED torch TITANIUM GREY | eBay

Please if you have a model that you absolutely recommend...post it here!!

Cheers,
Rossy.

I have a Black Diamond spot. Very impressed with it out on the hill so certainly more than good enough around campsite.

Fenix HP10 in the end

A few other models include:

- Petzl Tikka XP (or XP2)
- Zebratorch
- Fenix HP11 (although only water resistant, unlike the submersible to 2m HP10)

In the end I was torn between the first 3 (BD Spot, Coast Cree Led Lenser H7, and the Fenix HP10). I was about to purchase the HP11 at a decent price from Fenix LED Flashlights - Fenix - Fenix Tactical LED Flashlights - fenixtactical.com - fenix-led but realised it was only waterproof to IPX-6 standard, meaning it was only spray proof. The HP10 is waterproof to 2m for 30 minutes.

As a biologist I enjoy looking for critters at night so I opted for the more powerful light knowing I would use it for years to come and it would be a good investment. The waterproofing means I can also go swimming with it at night (which I occasionally do on the reefs and creeks back in Australia).

Happy head(lamp)-hunting!

I'm searching for a new head torch, anyone else got some to recommend?

I've got (and like) a Petzl Tikka Plus 2.

It's not so bright that it burns out the retinas of people around you, but plenty good for wandering about or working on the bike. It has white light at bright, not so bright and flashing and a red led for when you don't want to wake yourself up too much or disturb other people.

20 odd quid I think. I've had Petzls for many years now and when the headband on one lost it's elasticity, Petzl sent one out to me FOC.

I also have a new cree, turbo-mega-bastrd, 50,000,000 lumen headtorch that to be honest it way to bright to be of any use.
