Hit By Three Trucks
 

TIERRA DEL FUEGO: I got run down on Tuesday on ice by a truck carrying two other trucks. Trapped under the front fender, slid for 30 or 40 metres. There's a full account on BLOG at home
My right ankle was against the fender. It is now in a cast. I believe I would have had a badly fractured leg but for Alpinestars boots. Please don't message me that I am stupid to have been riding on ice. Aged 74, I know when I am stupid. Unfortunately knowledge doesn't always stop me from doing dumb things.

About who does stupid things or not , remember that travellers always in some moment do, did or will do something stupid. Is part to be a traveller and a human being.

The most dangerous thing you can do is to stop doing dangerous things. Feeling restricted by your age is like a self-fulfilling prophecy, so just carry on as you are.

Your blog makes fascinating reading, I didn't have much interest before in South America. But how could you bear to leave the Malverns?

Glad you're able to recount the event and not pushing up the daisies by the sound of it !! It sounds like a lucky escape, clearly it was your day to slip off this mortal coil. Like Tim quite rightly says - don't give up :thumbup1: keep on and keep trying otherwise why live at all .
Hope the legs mends quickly and they you are not too uncomfortable.
Take it easy for a few weeks and let things mend and hopefully you'll be back on the road to to the next crazy thing sometime soon .

You know what they say...

Thanks, all of you. I guess it will be ten weeks before I can ride again. Sending the bike to Dakar motos in BA for repair and will bus
and ferry thru Chile, north Argentine and Paraguay before picking up bike. simon

You're not stupid. You've done incredibly well to survive that one. Good man!

Get back on that bike when it's fixed. Or get another one.

Hi, I plan taking the bus to Puerto Arenas and on to Puerto Natales and catch the ferry to Puerto Montt on the 14th. Circle west from Santiaqgo via Asuncion and down to Bs As to collect the bike at Dakar motos in maybe five weeks. That is given that the xrays are OK on Tuesday.

You are an inspiration, if you come out of any fall/collision still smiling and nearly in one piece then thats a good thing.
