Good Customer Service from Garmin

I broke one of the data pins in my Garmin GPS III plus, so sent it back to Garmin in the UK for repair.

Three weeks later, a brand new GPS III Plus arrived in the post, complete with batteries and a bill marked 'Free replacement'.

This kind of excellent customer service deserves a mention.

I second that. My 111+ has been repaired free twice. Great company.

Yeah, great guys. I bought all my stuff in the US just before leaving on a European trip, and was in the UK installing the European City Select software - but had bad CDs. Quick phone call to Garmin, and a new set of CDs arrived the next day.

Great customer service.

Cheers,
Nick.

Hello. Just a curious question, did any of you fill out warranty cards when you purchased your GPS? If i purchased your GPS privately, would i receive the same service? This would be a huge selling-factor for the Garmin brand! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif

Garmin treats everyone equally concerning warranty service - it doesn't matter where or how you bought it, whether you are the first owner or the tenth owner. There is no warranty card to fill out.

Where they do make a difference is on the matter of free map updates. If, for example, you buy a GPS from an authorized Garmin dealer, and that unit has been sitting on the shelf for 3 years, which means the map CD inside is grossly out of date, Garmin will give you a free upgrade to the current CD when you register the GPSR. They will NOT provide this service for GPSR's that have been purchased secondhand, or from non-authorized dealers such as some (not all) internet retailers. This means, for the most part, that you are on your own if you buy your GPSR via eBay, unless the eBay vendor is a Garmin authorized dealer.
