Darr (Daerr), Hepco & Becker, Alpos...same difference!

Maybe I'm stating the obvious here but I'll say it anyway.

I have the Alpos panniers and now recieved a topbox (C29*) from Daerr. I have also had a look at the H&B boxes. They are all exactly the same, even the latches/locks, except for maybe an extra bend around the side or corners for aesthetics. I wouldn't be surprised of they were all punched out at exactly the same factory somewhere in Germany (or China).

So if you are considering any of these boxes then my advise would be to make your decision purely on Price + Postage.

*The C29 is actually sold as a normal travel case but is a handy size for a topbox.

I think the company that makes them is Alpos. Who I think are a Slovenian company who make all sizes of aluminium boxes for keeping engineering gear in. Maybe the cheapest place to source them would be a supplier to that trade?

All of the box manufacturers I've looked at seem to follow very standard sizes, none of which are the "pannier" dimensions. I guess they get a custom size made.

Panniers

You can also buy the hepco and becker standard alloy-boxes at OFF-THE-ROAD | Zubehör und Tuningteile rund um den Enduro-, Rallye- und Super-Moto Sport - the cost less than 200,00 €. I think the come from the same manufacturer - the keys even have "Hepco & Becker" written on.

I just bought two of them there. (30 and 38 l)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
